Food for the Gods Cake - The Fast and Easy Way

One of the best memories of my childhood would always be the times my mother would bake a kind of cake that my siblings and I love so much. The name itself is quite unique-Food for the gods. The wonderful smell of it baking in the oven would fill our house giving us a warm and cozy atmosphere. When I started my catering business several years ago, the cake my mom used to make was one of the top selling products. In fact, a lot of my customers would comment that every bite makes you feel closer to "heaven". It also makes great giveaways during holiday season. To top it all, it is so easy to do and gives out such wonderful results.

FOOD FOR THE GODS (makes 48 bite size pieces)

Desserts Food

1 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour

1/2 teaspoon Baking powder

1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda

1/4 teaspoon Iodized Salt

1 cup melted Butter

1 cup Granulated Sugar

1 cup Brown Sugar

3 Large Eggs

2 Tablespoon Caro Syrup

1 cup coarsely chopped Pitted Dates

1 cup Walnuts, chopped

Procedure:

a. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and line a 9 x 13 inch rectangular pan.

b. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. Repeat this three times.

c. Take 1/2 cup of this mixture and dredge dates. Set aside.

d. Cream butter until soft and fluffy. Add sugar and blend. Put in eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.

e. Mix the Caro syrup (this will make the cake chewy and moist)

f. Fold in the flour mixture and the dates. Take out the mixing bowl from the mixer and put in the walnuts. Stir it manually until completely blend the batter.

e. Pour batter in the rectangular pan and spread it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Lower down heat to 300 degrees F and continue baking for 30-40 minutes.

f. Cool slightly then cut it into bars. Individually wrap in colored paper or cellophane.

Everyone should try this recipe. It is so easy to do and you can be assured that your family and friends would love it!
