Tips for Making Layer Jello Recipes

Layer jello recipes are one of the more popular desserts you will find, especially during the holidays. These recipes are nice, because they do offer a series of delicious flavor combinations that will have your taste buds popping with the different flavor combinations. Of course, if you have never made them before, you might not be sure how to make them. This process is a bit more complicated than throwing a number of different hot mixtures in the same pan. We will look at some tips that even the more advanced professional might find helpful.

To begin with, you might not be sure how to create the layered effect. This is easily done with the use of the fridge and some extra time. Begin by creating your first flavor that will be going into your layer jello recipes and use half a cup of hot water. Then mix it well, follow it with a half a cup of chilled water. This will help your jello to start becoming solid faster. Place it in the bottom of a slightly greased pan. Then allow it to chill for an hour or until firm.

The grease will help to prevent the jello from forming to imperfections in the pan. It will also help to block the flavor of the metallic pans that people often use. Of course, you will want to choose an unflavored grease if you are going to go this route. Otherwise, you just exchange out some of the different flavors in this case.

When you are ready to place your next layer down, be sure you do not pour it over the cool jello at a temperature above warm. If you do, the lower layer of jello will begin to blend with the mixture that you just placed over it and it might not set the way you would like it to.

While you are creating your layer jello recipes, you might also consider making some fun adjustments. One of the most common is using chilled lemon lime soda in place of the chilled water. This adds a spark to the mix and can give your guests one of the most unique flavor variations that will certainly have them talking for some time to come.

Remember that the overall goal in this recipe is to create a decent number of layers. Many people will go for 7 -9 and create a full rainbow that will dazzle the eyes as well as the palate. Be sure you get creative and do not be afraid to experiment. With this delicious dish, there really is no wrong flavor combination and instead, you might find that your own creation is better than any you have tried before in the past.

Making Your Own Survival Food Cache

There is a great deal of talk going around about an upcoming fuel and food shortage.  I don't know if there is solid validity for that prediction, however, looking at the way the economy has been going there may be credibility to those predictions.  For months I have been preserving food for storage just in case.  My thinking has always been that it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.  Today I will share a simple method of dehydrating foods for storage with a minimal investment.

Sorbet: Tips for Making a Low Sugar Dessert

Few things are more satisfying than a cup of smooth, cold sorbet on a warm and relaxing day. I love to make and eat sorbet, but there is a potential downside. Unlike ice cream, sorbet has neither fat nor lactose; but just like ice cream, sorbet has lots and lots of sugar. When making sorbet, in order to get consistently creamy texture, I would sometimes add up to one full cup of sugar for every cup of juice. Of course, the amount I added depended on the juice I was using, but that is still too much sugar. Now that I am trying to eat healthier, I have turned to a low sugar alternative.

Being on a low sugar diet, I decided to look at my local grocery store for sorbet that had reduced sugar content. Not only was the sugar levels similar to what I had been making at home, but there were other additives. Many of which I had not encountered since chemistry lab in college! The solution? Make your own sorbet, but replace the sugar with agave nectar. Agave nectar (sometimes called agave syrup) is a natural sweetener that is 1.4 times sweeter than white sugar, according to the Madhava company that makes the nectar. That means that you can immediately reduce the amount of sweetener needed in the recipe by 40%. To get the creamy texture, be sure to use the whole fruit instead of just fruit juice. Homemade sorbet is an easy to make treat that is delicious and healthy.

Desserts Food

What you will need:

Fruit (or fruit juice) of your choice

Agave Nectar (or sugar)

Food processor or ice cream maker

Water (only if you are making lemon or lime sorbet)

There are two ways of making sorbet - with a food processor or an ice cream maker. To make it with a food processor, simply mix the fruit and sugar together in the food processor. Put the mixture into plastic containers and place it in the freezer. After it has frozen, take the containers out and run it back through the food processor. This will yield more of a gelato consistency with a little bit of a crunch. To use the ice cream maker, mix the fruit and sugar together, then put the mixture in the refrigerator for a couple hours to chill. After it is chilled, transfer the mixture to the ice cream maker and let the machine do the work of mixing and freezing. This will yield a creamy consistency that melts on the tongue. My personal favorite is a combination of the two! Puree three fourths cup of agave nectar for every cup of fresh fruit in a food processor. Then chill the mixture in the refrigerator and finish it off with the ice cream maker. By using the whole fruit, the sorbet turns out thicker, and you also get to keep all the nutrients!

The next time your sweet tooth comes calling, think of this homemade sorbet to satisfy your craving without sacrificing your diet.

Making A Party Dessert Pizza Recipe

When you are having a special party, holiday fun or a gathering of people whether family or business associates you will want to serve something wonderful for an after meal dessert. Then again, perhaps you are party planning for a slumber party for your children and their friends. Whatever reason you have for gathering family and friends together you want to entertain them as well as have them leave with a smile of satisfaction and a sweet taste in their mouth. You can do this by making and serving a party dessert pizza recipe.

What Makes a Pizza Good?

Desserts Food

If you have never heard of or tried a dessert pizza, you are in for a special treat. You see, pizza does not always have to be made of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and tangy sauces. Some of them are delightfully sweet and surprising. Here we can tell you how to make an easy snack or treat for any occasion.

Pizzas are made of three layers. The first is a dough or biscuit base. The base is slathered with some kind of sauce or gravy type mixture and then the sauce is covered with some kind of topping. You can make the dough, the sauce, and the toppings from many different ingredients.

Recipe for Crispy Treat Fruit Dessert Pizza

What You Need

¼ cup butter or margarine 32 large marshmallows 5 cups crispy rice cereal 1 package cream cheese 8 ounce 2 cups confectioners sugar ¼ cup cocoa 14 medium size halved strawberries 2 sliced bananas 2 chopped kiwis 2 Tablespoons peach jam 1 ½ teaspoons water 1 small container whipped topping

How to Make It

Prepare your pizza pan or cookie sheet by lightly coating it with cooking spray and set aside until needed.

Using a medium saucepan over a low heat setting add the butter or margarine and the marshmallows. Stir until melted and then remove pan from heat. Stir the dry cereal into this mixture until thoroughly mixed.

Press this mixture onto the pizza pan or cookie sheet evenly and then place it in the refrigerator to chill.

Using a small mixing bowl add the cream cheese, confectioners sugar and cocoa to prepare the sauce. Beat until creamy and smooth in texture and appearance. Spread this sauce over the pizza crust evenly.

Using the strawberries, bananas and kiwi arrange them evenly over the sweet crispy crust much like you would any other pizza topping, unless you would like to create some fanciful design.

Mix the peach jam and water in a small cup. Brush this mixture over the fruit topping to reduce the browning of fruit.

This is indeed a rich sweet dessert. Before serving, cut this pizza into smaller slices than you normally would for a regular pizza. Then drop dollops of whipped cream onto the pizza slices.

Making A Party Dessert Pizza Recipe

When it comes to serving pizza the sky may be the limit when it involves the various ingredients you can use to make all three layers of a pizza. For instance, you can enjoy just about anything from an authentic Italian dish to even a fun and fanciful fruit pizza recipe for parties and other gatherings. Making Mexican Desserts With Cream Cheese

Cream cheese is a relatively new invention that was first created in the US in the late 1800s but this tasty soft and unripe cheese eventually made its way south of the border to Mexico. Cream cheese is featured prominently in many mouthwatering dessert recipes ranging from the simple to the complex.

This cheese is actually a combination of cream and milk along with lactic acid. Some brands include guar gum as a stabilizer to create firmness and to allow the cheese to spread better. Guar gum also keeps the cream cheese from crumbling and lengthens its shelf life.

Today you can find a wide variety of flavored cream cheeses available for making desserts including chocolate, blueberry, pineapple, and strawberry. You can also make your own flavored cream cheeses by adding in the ingredients of your choice and then blending together.

Make the most delicious empanadas with softened cream cheese, butter, sugar, and ground cinnamon then fill with strawberries, blueberries, or apple filling for a fruity dish. Also, use cream cheese to create a wonderful frosting for cakes and cookies and other treats.

A simple but incredibly sweet Mexican chocolate cheesecake makes for a wonderful dessert. Use crushed graham crackers for the crust along with melted butter. Then use softened cream cheese, heavy whipping cream, Mexican chocolate, almond, and vanilla extracts, and sugar and mix together then chill for a few hours before serving. You can also garnish your cheesecake with finely chopped walnuts or almonds.

Desserts for the adults with a few dashes of alcoholic beverages are a popular treat especially during the holidays, just be sure everyone knows they are off limits for the younger guests. Margaritas, for example, are the drink most associated with Mexico and you can easily incorporate the beverage into a variety of desserts.

A Bundt style cake with vanilla pudding mix, flavored cake mix, and a few drops of tequila and triple sec along with lime juice will definitely be the hit of any Mexican themed party. In addition, do not forget to ice the Bundt cake with a sugary cream cheese frosting and a few drops of any color food coloring for visual appeal.

Margarita Cheesecake Corn Chips Recipe

What You Need

14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup triple sec
6 ounce can frozen limeade concentrate
1 bag large, scoop type corn chips
1 can whipped topping
Lime zest for garnish

How to Make It

In a large mixing bowl, combine the can of condensed milk and the softened cream cheese and stir together until mixed well. Add in the alcohol, and the frozen limeade concentrate and stir well.

Spoon 1 tablespoon of the mixture into each corn chip and place on a baking sheet and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Just before the corn chips are done chilling prepare the lime zest to be used as a garnish.

Dab a bit of whipped topping on each chip and sprinkle the lime zest on top just before serving the margarita cheesecake corn chips.

Serves about 12.

Tailor all of your Mexican recipes to your family's exact liking by adding or removing spices as needed. Do not be afraid to experiment to get the precise flavor you like. In addition, for a special after dinner treat, you cannot go wrong with making delicious Mexican dessert recipes to satisfy even the choosiest of taste buds.

Making The Best Desserts With Bananas

Although bananas are wonderfully delicious eaten fresh from the peel, they are also perfect for using in so many different types of dessert recipes mixed with a variety of foods. Use bananas for making breads, cakes, muffins, pies, and puddings, just to name a few of the desserts and snacks you will be sure to make again and again.

Bananas are a tropical fruit that come in a few different varieties with the traditional, yellow Cavendish type being the most common for eating plain and using in baking or for desserts.

Desserts Food

Some other types of bananas include the burro, which is shorter than the Cavendish and features a creamy colored flesh, the blue java, which is a small, plump type perfect for desserts thanks to its extra sweet fruit, and the baby banana, a tiny version of the Cavendish measuring no more than three inches long.

You can buy bananas at all stages of ripeness depending on your personal preferences and what you plan on using them for. Bananas that are all green are unripe and not ready to eat or use for cooking while those that are mostly yellow with some green coloring on the tips are just right.

Brown or black specks will appear on the peel as the fruit ripens and softens inside. If you have bananas that are too ripe to eat as is, mash them, and use them to cook with. To keep mashed bananas from turning brown, add a few drops of lemon juice.

Store your bananas at room temperature unless you want to stop the ripening process, in which case you should keep them in the refrigerator. You can also keep ripe bananas in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life by a few days. Do not worry if the peel turns brown, as the cold will not affect the fruit inside.

Add a smooth texture to your fruit salads using sliced bananas or mix them with custards, ice cream, puddings, and yogurt. You can also dry bananas to increase their sweetness and eat them as a snack. Bananas can even be baked, boiled, sauteed, and steamed for making an interesting array of sweet treats.

Melt Mexican chocolate and use it to coat whole bananas put on waxed paper and placed in the freezer. You can sprinkle your favorite type of chopped nuts on top of the bananas or enjoy them plain.

Mexican Fried Bananas Recipe

What You Need

4 tablespoons margarine 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup orange juice 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 4 slightly green bananas, peeled, sliced

How to Make It

In a skillet, melt the margarine with the brown sugar over low to medium heat. Stir in the orange juice and the cinnamon and cook until the brown sugar dissolves.

Add in the banana slices and stir to coat well. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until the liquid is just about caramelized and the bananas are turning a golden brown color.

Serve the Mexican fried bananas while hot.

Serves 8.

Making The Best Desserts With Bananas

Whip up a few simple Mexican recipes for your next special occasion or gathering with family and friends instead of serving the usual party foods and be prepared for plenty of compliments from guests. Mexican dessert recipes like an easy mango pudding or apple empanadas take all the guesswork out of making an authentic south of the border selection of sweets.

Learn The Art of Making Traditional Asian Desserts - Malay Kuih

Firstly allow me to clear the misconception of Asian definition when it comes to food. If there is such a thing as American cheesecake or British bread pudding, or Australian Carrot Cake, there is indeed no such thing as Asian Dessert anything. There are however a multitude of desserts across different ethnic groups in Asia.

So you can imagine how rich the Asian food culture is, if you collectively identify them as Chinese, Malay, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese, Indonesian, Arabic, Philippines etc. Each culture carries with it a totally different tradition and heritage and this is reflected in their desserts as well.

Desserts Food

One particular "Asian" dessert that is little known amongst Westerners are the traditional Malay kuihs. These are delightful chewy and rich desserts that are made from natural ingredients like tapioca flour, sweet potato flour, bananas, palm sugar, coconut milk, glutinous rice etc. There are more than 100 different types of Malay kuihs and these recipes emerged and came from the Indonesian and Malay villages. I grew up with these kuihs and used to watch my grandmother lovingly prepared her goodies over the stove and delighted in feeding us those delectables. She too learned the skill from her homeland in Sumatera Indonesia before she migrated to Singapore.

In those days, the womenfolk discovered resourceful ways to make their desserts and snacks from natural ingredients or whatever they grew in their garden and grew on trees. These kuihs were steamed mostly, sometimes grilled - baking was nonexistent because they not only did not have any oven, electricity was scarce. Besides sweets, there are also savoury version which is often eaten or served during tea time.

Today kuihs are such popular desserts in Southeast Asia mainly inSingapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Yet very few people know the secrets of making kuihs as many recipe books are written in English. Some recipes are available on the internet. I know of many Western friends or those living in the west, who would regularly request for translated version from me. In this part of the world, it is quite easy to find these desserts from the wet market to hotels and restaurants. Many of the recipes have been simplified and subsitutes are introduced for eg fullcream milk is used instead of coconut milk.

Many locals make their living from selling these kuihs as there are more people willing to eat than to learn the art of making these traditional and delicious desserts. The Malays knew the secrets to make these kuihs differently from other desserts through the use of banana and pandan leaves for fragrance and colour, through use of combined flour to give contrasting tastes and use of palm sugar melted like cheese to heighten the eating sensation.

If you love baking and cooking, you will enjoy learning the art of making this "Asian" dessert which belongs to the Malay or Indonesian ethnic group. While Asians are familiar with western desserts, and enjoying a wonderful choice of desserts, the westerners are yet to discover a whole new world of desserts which can be quickly learned and easily made. Not to mention, to impress the entire neighbourhood!

Making a Great Dessert that is Not Fattening is Not Easy - Or is It?

For those who love food and wish to indulge in the dessert treat to finish off a perfect meal, too we must watch what we eat. No sense in sending our diets over the edge. It is possible to make a dessert which is not fattening. So, taking this premise we scoured the Internet to find such desserts and we did. Actually we found many tasty treats and quality desserts which were simple to make and non-fattening too.

One of the first great desserts we discovered was Apple Sauce Whip on a website called; Batemania. Apple Sause Whip has under 40 calories per each serving (yes, that is what we said, we were amazed indeed). Even better is that is a synch to make, not very time consuming at all and simple ingredients to boot.

Another great dessert we came across in the hours of scouring the Internet for low-calorie tasty desserts was actually a whole collection of desserts with men in mind on; Askmen.com

True many were way out of the realm of only 40 calories and some over 400, but we are men and well we deserve a little more once in a while. After all we need the calories to reach high places and lift heavy objects and to feed our powerful brains right?
