Famous Russian Desserts

If you like to learn about famous international desserts and make your own, it might interest you to know a bit about famous Russian desserts. In Russia, desserts are usually served at breakfast or eaten after an entree at dinner.

Pancakes, or blinis, are very popular. You might have tried these with smoked salmon or caviar but in Russia these little buckwheat pancakes are often served with honey, jelly or sour cream. Oladi are like blinis but thicker and more filling. Tvorog is Russian cottage cheese and this is served with berry jam or honey.

Pastries are very popular in Russia, especially apple pastries. Syrniki are made with fried cottage cheese and served with jelly, sweet dressings or honey. Russian teacakes are little cookie which are rolled in powdered sugar.

How to Adapt Russian Dessert Recipes

You might like to make your own Russian desserts to surprise your family but perhaps you want to tweak the recipes a little. If you enjoy making jello recipes, what about combining it with Russian recipes?

For example, Russians love to eat fruit pastries and you can make your own pastries using jello to hold the fruit topping in place and to add flavor. Try making a strawberry pastry with fresh strawberries in a layer of strawberry jello.

You can also pour jello over Russian cakes to add flavor and texture. Another way to adapt classic Russian recipes is to change what they are served with. Honey is a popular accompaniment to Russian desserts but you can try maple syrup or your favorite ice cream syrup.

Recipe for Authentic Russian Fruit Cake

This delicious recipe is perfect for fruit cake fans. There are various types of fruit cake. Perhaps you enjoy fruit cakes with plenty of nuts and a touch of whiskey or fruit cakes with lots of cherries. This Russian fruit cake contains various fruits and nuts and sherry for flavor. This is an easy fruit cake recipe but you do need to let the fruit stand in the sherry overnight so start this cake recipe a day before you want to bake it.

What you will need:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons sherry
3/4 cup chopped dried apricots
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup chopped raisins
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped candied fruits
1/2 cup sourdough starter
1/3 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sliced almonds
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

How to make it:

Stir the fruits into 1/2 cup of the sherry and let them stand overnight. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F. Cream together the butter, spices and sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then add the sourdough starter and stir the mixture. Add the almonds and fruit mixture. Sift the salt, baking soda and flour into the sourdough mixture and combine well.

Cover a cake pan with wax paper, and then grease it well with oil. Transfer the cake batter into the cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until done. Let the cake cool on a wire rack, and then remove the wax paper. Sprinkle the rest of the sherry over the cake.

Russian dessert recipes are full of flavor and fun to make. You can adapt classic Russian recipes with modern ingredients like jello. Sometimes you might want to make international desserts for the family and other times make something easy like a chocolate mousse instead, for variety.

Mouth-Watering Thai Desserts

Thai cuisine is famous for its intriguing delicacy and spiciness. However, Thai desserts have been overlooked. The three Thai desserts famous outside of Thailand are mango with sticky rice, deep-fried bananas and coconut ice cream. There is a broad tradition of desserts in Thailand over the centuries which offers many ideas and choices.

Thai desserts have long been with the Thai people, certainly back to the Sukhothai period (1238-1350). Thais had long traded with China and India, which helped in exchanging cultures and traditions as well, including food. In the Ayuthaya period (1350-1767), Thais started trading with Western countries. The Portuguese were the first westerners to introduce the use of eggs and the oven. Thai desserts like Thong Yip (Pinched Gold), Thong Yod (Drop of Gold) and Foi Thong (Golden Threads) originate from Portugal, not Thailand as most people would guess, including Thais.

Thai desserts are renowned for intricacy and elaborateness, their organization, and the punctilious and patient care with which they are created. Characteristic of Thai desserts is not only a range of sweetness, but also other elements such as a good fragrance, achieved starting delicately and exquisitely from the ingredient preparation to the final product. There are many methods to make Thai desserts, varying from steaming, baking, boiling, or deep frying, to complex processes like cooking egg yolks in syrup. The main ingredients for most Thai desserts include coconut milk, sugar, flour, eggs, salt, food coloring and fragrance.

To make high quality Thai desserts, fresh coconut is a must. Back in the old days, only fresh coconut was used in making Thai desserts. And at present, to make coconut milk, finely grated coconut meat is still steeped in warm water, not hot water. It is then squeezed until dry. The white fluid from the first press is called "Hua Ka Ti". Warm water is then added again to make the second and third pressed coconut milk, which is called "Hang Ka Ti." Finely grated coconut meat is generally used about 3 times and then discarded. Freshly pressed coconut milk has a better taste and aroma than commercial coconut milk in a can. However, with a fast pace of life, or the focus more on other elements of life, it becomes more common for a family to use commercial coconut milk.

Sugar is one of the main ingredients in Thai desserts. The two common sugars used in Thai desserts are Coconut Palm Sugar and Palm Sugar. Coconut palm sugar is made from coconut palm, whereas palm sugar is made from the sap of the sugar palm or palmyra palm, called Taan in Thai. Palm sugar is often used interchangeably with coconut palm sugar but they are different in many ways. For instance, palm sugar is dryer and more solid than coconut palm sugar. It is also more expensive than coconut palm sugar. In some dessert recipes, coconut palm sugar is often replaced with palm sugar. The replacement may lend the same general look to the dessert but the dessert will be different in taste and aroma.

Thai desserts are well known for their intriguing light tones. Generally the colors used to attract people are made from natural flowers or plants. The following are examples of the most common color sources used in Thai desserts:

Pandanus leaf (Bai Toey): giving a dark green color;
Spathe of coconut or palmyra palm leaf (Kab Ma Prao or Bai Taan) : giving a black color;
Turmeric (Kha Min): giving a yellow color;
Flower of Chitoria Tematea Linn (Dok Un Chun): giving a blue color (adding lime juice will give a purple color);
Flower of Aeginetia Pedunculata (Dok Din): giving a black color (but the flower is actually a dark purple color);
Saffron (Yah Fa Rang): giving a yellow-orangish color;
Roselle (Kra Jiab): giving a dark red (maroon-like) color;
Lac (Krang): giving a red color;

Fragrance is another unique characteristic of Thai desserts. There are many ways of making good aromas with Thai desserts but the most common ones are using jasmine flowers (Dok Ma Li), rosa damascene (Dok Ku Laab Mon - roses family), cananga odorata flowers (Dok Kra Dang Nga) as well as fragrant incense candles (Tien Ob). Since the old days, Thais love using jasmine water in desserts because of its aroma. Thais would pick jasmine flowers around 6pm and gently rinse with water so that the flowers do not get bruised. The jasmine flowers (Dok Ma Li) are then soaked in water with a closed lid, and left until around 6am-7am the next morning. The resulting scented water is then used to make the dessert. Keeping the jasmine flowers for more than 12 hours will start to bruise the flowers and the water will not have a good aroma. Rosa damascene (Dok Ku Laab Mon) is used in a different way. Thais only use the pedals. Each pedal is torn into 2 or 3 pieces and then placed in a closed container that has a dessert in it for a certain period of time, usually overnight. For cananga odorata flowers (Dok Kra Dang Nga), Thais first burn them with a fragrant incense candle, and then place only the pedals in a closed container that holds the dessert. For some desserts, burning fragrant incense candles next to desserts in closed containers will be enough to give the desserts an intricate aroma.

What are the common desserts that Thais eat? Thais loves desserts (called Khanom in Thai). The well known dessert is Mango with Sticky Rice, but it is a seasonal dessert, around April to June. Deep-fried banana fritters (Gluay Tod in Thai) or bananas in coconut milk (Gluay Buat Chee) are also well known desserts in Thai restaurants in the U.S. In Thailand, there are all kinds of desserts, both non-seasonal and seasonal, from deep-fried to steamed. Some of the most common Thai desserts include the egg-yolk desserts; Thong Yip (Pinched Gold), Thong Yod (Drop of Gold) and Foi Thong (Golden Threads). Thong simply means Gold. The color of these three desserts is a yellow-like golden color from the egg yolk, and is used to signify prosperity and auspiciousness. These "three musketeers" desserts are often used in wedding ceremonies or commemoration of a new house as well.

Khanom Chan or layered dessert is another common dessert. The name of the dessert comes from the fact that it has 9 layers with color variations. The dessert uses only 2 colors: white and a light tone of a color like green or purple. White is used in every other layer. This dessert is also used in important ceremonies like weddings or the grand opening of a new business. Thais believe the number "nine" is an auspicious number which represents progress and advancement.

One of my favorite desserts is Luk Choob. Made from mung dal beans, this dessert is a collection of miniature replicas of fruits and vegetables. The fruits and vegetables are colorful and glossy, artistically carved, and styled with vegetable dyes and glazed in the gelatin-like agaragar. Bua Loy Benjarong is another interesting dessert. Bua Loy Benjarong is gluten balls in coconut milk, a dish that has been with Thailand for over 200 years. The little balls, the size of the tip of the pinky, are made from sticky rice flour mixed with natural colors. Benjarong refers to 5 natural colors: green (from pandanus leaf), purple (from taro and Chitoria Tematea Linn flower), yellow (from pumpkin), blue (from Chitoria Tematea Linn flower) and white (from jasmine water).

Additionally, tapioca and black beans in coconut milk (Sakoo Tao Dum), coconut custard in a hollowed pumpkin (Sangkhaya Fak Thong), grilled coconut cakes (Paeng Jee), mung dal beans and lotus seeds with coconut topping (Tao Suan Med Bua) are desserts, to name a few, that are common in Thailand.

Thai desserts have always been a part of Thai culture. They reflect caring, patience and an enjoyable way of life. Unfortunately, as time passes, some of the traditions and beliefs are being forgotten in Thai society, although most kinds of desserts still exist. Their tempting and satisfying tastes leave a lasting impression - which is in turn an integral part of why Thai desserts have not been lost with time.

Fast and Healthy Summer Desserts Your Family Will Love

Once we envision that end-of-meal treat, the dessert, a sweet sinfully scrumptious and sometimes high-calorie dish comes to mind. In the course of the chilly months, a chunk of cheesecake or chocolate cake makes a pretty, albeit filling, ending to the meal. Because the warm days of spring and summer come, we are not fairly so eager for such heavy desserts. A lighter dish is what we need. Any kind of healthy summer desserts on the market? You bet.

Right here, we have got the inside track on simply and shortly ready, healthy summer desserts your family will absolutely enjoy|.

In French and Italian households, fruit and cheese are usually served for dessert, a healthy and scrumptious various to the standard sugar-laden confections generally seen on the American desk. The fruit supplies the right contact of sweetness, whereas a wedge of cheese treats the palate to a creamy chunk of goodness that is satisfying and would not require that you simply loosen your belt to take pleasure in.

First, we'll go over the fundamental 'rules' for the storage and preparation of your fruit. Then, we'll get into ideas for combos that produce tasty and healthy summer desserts. You do not even want a recipe!

Aside from firm-skinned fruits, resembling oranges, bananas and apples, fruits needs to be saved within the frig, to defend towards the lack of nutritional vitamins, notably nutritional vitamins A, B2 and C. Left at room temperature, fruits are quickly depleted of their vitamin content material. For instance, a ripe kiwi fruit, sitting at room temperature for only a day, might lose as much as 80% of its dietary worth!

The vitamin content material of fruit continues to enhance till the fruit is ripe. In case your fruit isn't but ripe, storing it at room temperature in a darkish space permits it to ripen. Plan your desserts to make use of fruits at good ripeness. That is simply achieved with a mix-and-match technique to combining fruits.

Do not wash any fruit till you are getting ready it to serve. Whenever you do wash fruit, do in order rapidly as potential and use chilly water.

There are a number of methods to mix and current these healthy summer desserts. A fruit cup of combined fruits could also be garnished with a non-dairy whipped topping for a straightforward and colourful dessert. Wedges of kiwi fruit, strawberries, and sliced bananas are a scrumptious mixture, particularly when blended in a dressing of your favourite taste of yogurt. An easy presentation of wedges of apples or cantaloupe, along with 2 or three slices of a pointy cheddar makes a good distinction for the palate. Different cheeses that go effectively with fruit dessert plates embody Brie, Swiss, Gouda, and Roquefort.

Your repertoire of healthy summer desserts may be expanded with cooked fruits, resembling baked apples, pears, peaches and apricots. When cooking fruit, it is best to steam it first (to retain the utmost dietary content material), then briefly baking simply till tender. Garnishing cooked fruit with a spoonful of whipped cream and a sprint of cinnamon makes a terrific dessert.

So, there you've gotten a mini-cookbook of healthy summer desserts?the recipes are in your creativeness!

Desserts Are an Important Part of the Baby Shower Food Menu

Baby showers are not complete without sweets! Desserts, fruit, and pastries add sweetness and charm to special events. Sweets are an important part of a baby shower, so do not forget to include them in your menu. If you have reservations in a restaurant, the restaurant will probably offer a dessert menu from which you can choose your selection of sweets and post-meal indulgences.

If you are hosting the baby shower at a banquet hall or at someone's home, the dessert menu is completely up to you to decide on. You can make desserts fun, sweet, and baby themed to match your event. If there is a specific theme that you are focusing on, like "Pink Tea," design your dessert menu around your theme. Popular sweets for baby showers are pastries, eclairs, truffles, fruits, chocolates, and the ever-classic cake.

Pastries and éclairs can be bought or baked. Visit your local bakery to find out about any special deals and offers that they can offer for a large quantity of pastries purchased. You can also find some good recipes online or in a cookbook, and bake the pastries yourself. A great alternative to this is to buy frozen pastries at your local grocery store, or better yet, at a wholesale grocery store. These are affordable and scrumptiously delicious. B.J.'s and Costco supermarkets have amazing éclairs that nobody will ever know were bought frozen.

Trufas are a Latin American version of truffles. Truffles are not necessarily made out of chocolate in Hispanic countries, but can be made with coconut, vanilla, and other flavors. Two popular flavors in Latin America are coconut and cocoa-flavored truffles. An easy recipe for truffles calls for one can of sweetened condensed milk, a box of crushed vanilla wafer cookies, and a half of a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cocoa, sweetened shredded coconut, and sprinkles are good add-ons.

Crush the cookies until you end up purely with cookie crumbs. Slowly add the sweetened condensed milk until you reach the desire consistency of tough clay. Add the vanilla flavoring along with the chosen flavor (cocoa, coconut, etc.). Use you own taste to decide how much cocoa or coconut to use. Roll into small, round truffles. As a finishing touch, roll the coconut truffles around in shredded coconut, and roll the cocoa truffles in cocoa. Sprinkles are optional.

Fruits and dip is a healthy and fresh option for a sweet treat. Serve apple slices, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and melon alongside fruit dip, and you have got a fabulous and nutritious treat! Popular choices for fruit dip are caramel, chocolate, and yogurt dip.

Chocolate is a must-have for any baby shower. Small chocolates can be bought in bulk and served on tiny cupcake cups, for an elegant touch. You can also buy pastel-colored white chocolate (sold in bags in most craft stores), melt it, and pour the melted chocolate into small baby-themed molds (also can be found at a craft store). Refrigerate, and voila: delicate and adorable little chocolates!

Whichever sweets you decide to include in your menu, and whether or not you decide to make or buy them, do not forget about the cake! Whether you order it and have it made especially for your shower, or make it yourself, make sure that you are 100% satisfied with its outcome and that it ties into your baby shower theme.

We've all heard it before, avoiding exercise and eating lots of fats and sugar as well as being overweight can cause type 2 diabetes. The good news any way is that if you act now you can preclude this form of diabetes from occurring, or sell out and even cure the condition if you've been recently diagnosed.

As type 2 diabetes is regularly in direct relation to your lifestyle it's prominent to make changes to the way you live your life to see improvements. Now this isn't as bad as it sounds and in most cases you can continue eating the foods you like; you just need to be more selective.

Desserts Food

One of the ways to follow a diabetic diet is to consume foods from all of the four food groups, as well as limiting your intake of alcohol, fat, and sugars. You can consolidate a wide range of nutritious foods into a diabetic diet plan and combined with quarterly exercise will help you control your condition.

Now don't think that desserts and snacks are out of the question. In most cases they're not. If you've got a sweet tooth then check out these tasty diabetic desserts.

Best dessert Recipes - The Best Desserts Are "Just" Desserts

A lovely supper doesn't feel perfect until dessert is served. Desserts should always compliment the menu. Our taste buds focus on sweet, sour and salty. If you prepared a menu that includes sweet and sour, you'll want to offer a less involved dessert. The best desserts for meals of this kind advise simplicity - pears poached in a plum wine sauce, blood orange slices sauted in pineapple juice and rum or bananas rolled in coconut and pecans and baked in Cointreau sauce.

For meals that are approved meat and potatoes, your menu's theme is a good guide. With roast beef or chicken entrees, the best dessert recipes may be typical rice pudding or apple pie. Try adding coconut to your rice pudding and top them with orange slices sauted in brown sugar. Serve apple pie with a slice of a surely great cheddar cheese for ultra-sophisticated simplicity. Or, try glazing it with apricot preserves and then broiling until the top turns slightly bubbly.

Desserts Food

Planning main menus ahead very thought about is an occasion to coordinate food flavors. When serving Italian food, for instance, a great idea is to serve one of the best dessert recipes that's naturally yummy - cassata, an Italian cheesecake that's easy to make. Some cassata recipes call for ricotta, a heavier-textured Italian cheese. Try using mascarpone instead of ricotta. You will need a springform pan for this recipe.

Cassata:

16 oz. Mascarpone or Ricotta cheese. (If you are using Ricotta, sieve until smooth.)
4 eggs separated, slightly chilled
1 1/4 cups superfine sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated orange rind
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond liqueur
1/2 cup white raisins soaked in Sambucca liqueur, drained (reserve liqueur)
1/4 cup pignoli nuts
1 leech cake - May be purchased or use approved recipe for leech cake

Beat eggs yolks until they reach a pale yellow color. Add vanilla and almond liqueur. Blend with beater. Beat egg white until stiff but not dried, adding sugar slowly. Fold egg yolk compound with cheese and raisins. Add orange rind. Slowly fold in egg whites.

Line lowest and sides of spring form pan with leech cake. Brush with reserved liqueur. Do not soak. Pour in cheese mixture. Allow to set overnight or at least 6 hours before serving. Sprinkle top with pignoli nuts.

For casual "Saturday Night" menus, the best dessert recipes can also be fun desserts. Try old fashioned ice cream sodas or sundaes your guests can "build" themselves. Don't throw out that leftover morning coffee. Pour it into your blender, add a dash of cocoa powder and for adults, a petite Frangelico liqueur, and a scant dash of chili powder....yes...chili powder. Sweeten to taste. Pour into old-fashioned glasses and add a dollop of chocolate ice cream and a spring of mint.

One of the best dessert recipes for groups is also a lot of fun: Chocolate fondue. Instead of the customary fondue pot, pour your melted chocolate into personel Irish coffee glasses. Place a supper plate under each glass. Add strawberries, marshmallows, walnuts, and small chunks of pound cake. Serve with a fondue fork. Unique and fun for guests.

Pour the sauce over the enchiladas, and bake them in the oven for about twenty minutes. Then enjoy!

Flan is a superior Mexican sweetmeat that is served in most Mexican restaurants. Not everybody likes it, but when it is ready correctly, it can be indubitably great. One caveat before manufacture flan: you will need ramekins to bake the flans in, so purchase them before you get started! You will cook sugar in a saucepan until it is caramelized, and then pour some into each ramekin. Then mix together several eggs, sugar, evaporated milk, and vanilla. Pour the custard mix into the ramekins. Bake it in a water bath until an inserted knife comes out clean, about forty-five minutes. You may either enjoy it warm or chilled.

Sopapillas are similar to empanadas but they are fried. You make dough from flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, and water. Then you form the dough into small balls and fry them in vegetable oil. Drain the sopapillas well, and then sprinkle them with honey and/or powdered sugar. See, Mexican sweetmeat recipes are plentiful and easy!

Enjoying Great German Desserts

German habitancy love to eat, and they in fact know how to cook. My grandfather was born and raised in the collective community of the Amana Colonies in Iowa, and I've attended many family reunions and dinners in the Colonies over the years. Food was designed to stick to the ribs and keep hard-working men salutary and strong. Although my grandfather passed away while my mother was still a itsybitsy girl, some of the recipes for foods he loved have come down through the family. Extra German dessert recipes for cookies and rich pastries, such as Peppernuts (sugar cookies) and Apfelstrudel (apple strudel), were a popular part of my childhood.

Peppernuts were among the German dessert recipes I remember. You start production Peppernuts with 1 cup of softened butter, one cup of lard, and 3 cups of sugar. Cream them together until fluffy. Add 4 eggs and beat until very creamy. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons baking ammonia, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 4 cups flour. Beat well. Form into small balls and bake at 350 degrees until the edges are brown, colse to 10-12 minutes.

Desserts Food

All the cooking in the Amana Colonies was done in collective kitchens. After graduating from 8th grade, girls were put to work in the kitchens under the direction of a head cook. Their job was to turn out all the food, together with preparation the German dessert recipes, which the colonies would eat each day. At mealtime children were sent to the kitchens with covered pails so that they could pick up the food allotted to their family and bring it home. Every person worked hard, and no one worried about calories.

Apple strudel is other of the delightful German dessert recipes that smells heavenly while it's baking. For this recipe you need to start with 10 1/2 oz. Of flour, 1/6 oz. Of salt, 1 1/2 oz. Of melted lard, and 5 1/3 oz. Of warm water. This will give you the basic dough for the dessert. Knead the dough until it becomes plane and elastic. Divide into 3 loaves, brush each with melted butter, and allow to raise in a warm place for an hour.

While you're waiting for the bread dough to rise, you can mix your filling. Start by peeling, coring, and slicing 5 1/2 lbs. Of Golden delicious apples. Mix 5 1/3 oz. Of sugar with 1 1/2 oz. Of dark rum, 5 1/3 oz. Of raisins, the zest and juice from two lemons, and 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss this blend with the apples. Mix 10 1/2 oz. Of bread crumbs with 10 1/2 oz. Of melted, unsalted butter. Take one loaf of dough and stretch it to fit a strudel sheet. Cover 2/3 of the sheet of dough with bread crumbs. Spread apple filling on the remaining third. Cut the edges even and roll the dough up. Place on a cookie sheet, brush the top with melted butter, and bake at 400 degrees for for 60-90 minutes.

A Recipe Collection--top 3 Most Requested Delicious Desserts

When you are thinking about serving dessert at your next party, consider offering your guests one of these delicious, homemade desserts. I have found that of all the desserts I have served, these are my "Top 3 Most Requested Delicious Desserts" (in no particular order). Enjoy!

Number One Most Requested Delicious Dessert--Raspberry White Chocolate Dream Bars

1 box white cake mix

1/3 cup evaporated milk

1-1/2 sticks melted butter

1 cup chopped nuts

1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam

12 oz. white chocolate chips

Combine cake mix, milk, butter and nuts. Makes a very gooey dough. Spray a 9 x 13 pan and spread half of the dough into the bottom of the pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

Melt the jam in the microwave (about a minute) and spread on top of hot crust. Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over jam. Crumble remaining dough on top and bake an additional 20-25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting.

For bigger parties, this recipe easily doubles and can be made in a 15 x 10 pan.

Once you get the hang of this technique, you can think of all sorts of combinations. How about using chocolate cake with mint chips? Or lemon cake with white chocolate?

Number Two Most Requested Delicious Dessert--Chocolate Amaretto Bundt Cake

1 pkg. chocolate devil's food cake mix

1 small pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix

4 eggs

1 cup milk

1-1/2 oz. Amaretto liqueur

1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil

1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

1 cup fresh raspberries (optional)

1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam (optional)

Whipped cream (optional)

Glaze

1 stick butter

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup Amaretto

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine first 6 ingredients and blend well. Stir in chips. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.

Melt glaze ingredients in a saucepan or microwave. Pour 2/3 of glaze over top of cake while cake is hot from oven and still in pan. Allow cake to remain in pan for 25 minutes. Remove cake from pan and drizzle with remaining glaze.

When I make this cake dessert, I fill the middle with fresh raspberries and present it on my grandmother's crystal pedestal cake stand which is very dramatic.

Just before serving, I make a raspberry sauce by melting the jam in the microwave.

Each lucky guest gets a plate with some of the sauce, a slice of cake, a few berries and some whipped cream. Yum!

How to Make Desserts for The Memorial Day Weekend - Apple Raisin and Memorial Chess Pies

We Americans love to celebrate our holidays and our traditions often turn to food.  Memorial Day is known for parades, picnics and fun.  Don't let the holiday slip by without some wonderful dessert surprises for your family and/or friends this year.  Try something new like Memorial Chess Pie.  This old Southern Indiana pie is known as Memorial Chess Pie, in the community where I grew up, in memory of Josie who often prepared this pie for church socials and community events. Memorial Day was a day for Josie's pie.  Apple Pie is considered an American tradition and is usually found at patriotic holiday celebrations.  This year why not go out on a limb by turning the traditional pie into an Apple-Raisin Pie with a drizzle topping?

I love sharing my recipe collections with others.  Visit my desserts blog at http://ladybugssweettreats.blogspot.com  or my diabetic blog at http://diabeticenjoyingfood.blogspot.com

Mexican Desserts - Discovering Dulce De Leche

Dulce de leche can unmistakably be made at home. Spanish for "candied milk," dulce de leche is made by heating sweetened milk slowly until it makes a brown sauce that tastes like caramel. In Mexico, it can be found as both a candy and a syrup.

People all through South, Central, and Latin America love dulce de leche. Even France has a spreadable version of this delicious recipe. Be prepared to give this recipe your full attentiveness when you make it. Milk and sugar are both prone to burning if they are not stirred constantly. Keep the heat controlled at all times.

Some Typical South American Desserts

Perhaps you are a fan of Mexican food or you have a passion for traditional Mexican desserts like flan, dulce de leche cake, Mexican wedding cookies and more, but what about South American desserts and how do they compare?

If you have visited South America you might have sampled alfajor cookies, or alfajores. These are sandwich cookies which have a filling of dulce de leche. Dulce de leche is a sticky sweet caramel which is as beloved in traditional Mexican desserts as in the cakes and cookies of South American countries. If you want to make your own alfajores, you could sandwich them together with jelly, peanut butter, jam, cream or even ice cream.

Desserts Food

Fruity Mousse Recipes

Another beloved South American treat is passion fruit mousse. The most coarse mousse flavor might be chocolate but passion fruit adds a delicious tang to mousse and fruit mousses are more coarse than chocolate mousse in most South American countries. This mousse can be eaten as it is or used to fill cakes or sandwich cookies together.

Actually there are a lot of tropical mousse flavors which are well loved throughout South America. These light, refreshing desserts are ideal when the weather is hot and when you want to cool down.

Savory Ingredients in Sweet Recipes

Picarones are donuts made with sweet potato and pumpkin. These would make a fantastic Halloween formula and these delectable morsels are deep fried so they come out crispy and hot. Sweet potato and pumpkin are often used in savory dishes like soups or stews and picarones are not that sweet. They are, however, served with a spiced molasses syrup which is highly sweet and sticky.

Brigadeiros are Brazilian fudge truffle balls which are commonly served in paper cups. Brazilian coconut flan and alfajor cookies are also traditionally served in these small paper cups, as is the Peruvian candy called mana.

Mana is a bit like marzipan and you can color it and mold it into fruit shapes. Mana is made with sugar, milk and eggs and it was invented when the conquistadors came to South America. There were no almonds to make marzipan so they experimented with available ingredients and came up with mana instead. It is like fondant and can be rolled out and used to frost cakes.

Peruvian formula for Gingerbread

This gingerbread is easy to make and has a fantastic flavor. It is a beloved snack in Peru and some other parts of South America. Serve it with whipped cream or by itself.

What you will need:
1/2 cup white sugar 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 egg 1/3 cup shortening 1 cup hot water 1 cup molasses 1 teaspoon ground ginger 2 teaspoons baking soda 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon salt How to make it:
