Is There Such a Thing As a Tasty Low-Fat Dessert?

When you hear "low-fat dessert," several words likely pop into mind: cardboard, bland, tasteless and gross. With a few simple ingredients, however, low-fat desserts can be as delicious as they are good for you.
One of the most simple and decadent low-fat desserts is the "Angel Lush Cake," which traditionally uses a pre-made angel food cake, instant pudding mix, a can of crushed pineapple and no-fat or low-fat whipped topping that has been thawed to room temperature.
To make this dessert, mix one 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple, along with all juice, into a package of dry instant vanilla pudding mix. Once these ingredients are combined, gently fold in the whipped topping.
Next, cut the cake three equal layers. Put the bottom layer of cake on a plate. Top it with a third of the pudding mixture, then add the second layer of cake. Top that layer with a third of the pudding mixture and repeat those steps again with the final layer. Refrigerate the cake for at least one hour, then top it with fresh fruit before serving to guests.
The best thing about this dessert is the variations that can be thrown into the mix. Use different types of fruit to change things up, or even a different flavor of instant pudding mix between the layers. One tasty alteration is using bananas and chocolate pudding mix. Another interesting and tasty option using the same ingredients is to cut up the angel food cake and make a trifle by layering cake, whipped topping and fruit in a clear bowl.
When completed the Angel Lush Cake looks and tastes like a chef spent hours in the kitchen, and it will blow the notion of tasteless low-fat desserts out of the minds of those who are lucky enough to take a taste.
